MOOON este un proiect artistic despre Lună și despre cum se vede ea de pe Pământ. Cu cât ficțiunea se leagă de lucrurile știute, palpabile, cu atât tinde să fie mai elucubrantă. Cu cât se leagă de lucrurile îndepărtate, străine, cu atât încearcă să ni le apropie. Artiștii se află în situația de a imagina aspecte despre Lună și de a cerceta prin intermediul experiențelor proprii sau ale altora. A vedea fără a atinge poate fi adesea înșelător, dar aici rezidă și provocarea acestui subiect care a fost abordat adesea în istoria artelor, de la Georges Méliès și debuturile cinematografiei până la expoziția A trip to the Moon, curată de Fabiola Iza la Proyectos Monclova din Mexico City, în vara lui 2013 sau recenta Republic of the Moon de la The Arts Catalyst, Londra (ianuarie 2014).
MOOON aduce împreună șase artiști din spații geografice diferite care sunt interesați de știință și ficțiune în demersurile lor artistice. Discursurile se situează la limita dintre realitate și ficțiune, dintre adevăr și fantezie și dintre palpabil și efemer. Proiectele, în majoritate site-specific, sunt bazate pe cercetarea și explorarea mai multor medii, ce se armonizează în moduri inedite în finalitatea proiectului. Expoziția este însoțită de publicația evenimentului în ediție limitată, intitulată The Mooon Journal, realizată de curatoarea expoziției împreună cu artiștii.

Timon Botez (n. 1973) este un artist româno-norvegian educat la Londra, care s-a mutat de la New York la Oslo, unde trăiește și lucrează în prezent. Prin cercetare pseudo-științifică, Timon Botez explorează tipologii comportamentale ascunse, detectate în împrejurimile sale. Arta sa se situează la intersecția dintre tehnologie și mecanică. În ultimii șase ani, a lucrat cu sunetul și sculptura în compoziții conceptuale și instalații orchestrale. Precum lumina, sunetul poate fi și el modelat și format. Artistul explorează spațiul din fața unei surse de sunet, filtrând și proiectând aerul care circulă ca și cum ar sculpta undele sonore. Mai multe detalii la http://www.botezco.com/.
Mihail Coșulețu (n. 1982) trăiește și lucrează la București. Pictor ca formație și ca preocupare majoritară, Mihail Coșulețu lucrează și imagine digitală sau animație. Explorează geometrii fundamentale și creează lumi paralele din multiplicarea unei prisme sau a unui cub. Picturile sale în ulei, de mari dimensiuni, investighează arhitectura imaginară a unor orașe posibile. Activitatea sa de autor de grafică și ilustrație este vizibilă în câteva apariții remarcabile ale editurii Humanitas din ultimii ani (cărți audio sau tipărite). Adina Mocanu (n. 1990) trăiește și lucrează la București. Este autoare de instalație, performance, fotografie, video și desen, iar printre proiectele sale se numără și colaborarea cu Alexandra Sandu, cu care a realizat experimente comune în ultimii ani. Lucrările sale, adesea analitice și exacte, investighează cu tenacitate limitele, cercetează “delimitarea” ca mod de construcție a universului. Pentru Mooon a realizat o lucrare in situ, în spațiul Aiurart.
Sybille Neumeyer (n. 1982) trăiește și lucrează la Berching, Germania. Este autoare de design, video, fotografie, instalație și desen. Printre proiecte și rezidențe menționăm stagiul de la Schloss Solitude (2011-12), Muzeul de Artă Contemporană din Zagreb (2012-13) sau ARCUS Project, Moriya, Japonia (2013). Arta se se concentrează asupra fenomenelor și structurilor din cultură și natură pe care le translează în instalații, video sau lucrări pe hârtie, prin repetiție, arhivare și colectare/colecționare. Iulia Nistor (n. 1985) trăiește și lucrează la Nurenberg, Germania. Este autoare de pictură, fotografie, desen și instalație și doctorandă în filosofie la Universitatea din Regensburg. Arta sa investighează stimulii și suprapunerile memoriei și aplică necesarul filtru subiectiv peste imagini ambigue, aparent statice, surprinse în diverse locuri, cu cadraje inedite. Iulia Nistor folosește tehnologia contemporană și o asociază intuiției și fluidității unui discurs artistic profund filosofic. Mooon este cea de-a treia sa participare într-o expoziție la București.
Philipp Schweiger (n. 1971) trăiește și lucrează la Viena. Este autor de pictură, desen și sculptură, absolvent al Școlii de la Dusseldorf în 1997. Imaginile sale sunt poetice și denotative, artistul surprinzând momente senzaționale ale unei aparente tăceri. Imobilitatea picturii contrastează cu explozia, fluxul sau energia din subiectul imaginii. Pentru Mooon a realizat două lucrări pe pânză cu Luna. MOOON is an art project about the Moon and its image as seen from the Earth. The more that Fiction clings on to known, palpable things, the more it tends to turn into a phantasmagoria. The more it relates to strange, far-flung things, the closer they are brought to us. The artists find themselves in a situation where they have to imagine aspects of the Moon backed by doing research via their own experiences and other people's, too. Seeing something without touching it may often prove deceptive yet, this is where lies the challenge of this topic – a task that has been comprehensively analysed in Art History endeavours, ranging from Georges Méliès and the beginnings of cinematography to the A Trip to the Moon exhibition, curated by Fabiola Iza at Proyectos Monclova, in Mexico City, in the summer of 2013, or the Republic of the Moon by The Arts Catalyst, London (January, 2014).
MOOON brings together six artists from six different geographical areas, all of whom share a keen interest in both Science, as well as Fiction. Their discourses lie at the precipice separating science from fiction, truth from fantasy and the tangible from the evanescent. Their art works are mostly done in situ, after researching and exploring a host of mediums and ranges, often regarded as conflicting yet, somehow still managing to blend in into the final product, in novel and surprising ways.
The exhibition is being backed by a series of artist talks and the release of this event’s publication, titled The Mooon Journal, created by Simona Vilau, the exhibition’s curator.

Timon Botez (b. 1973) is a Norwegian-Romanian artist educated in London and re-located from New York to Oslo where he is currently based. Through pseudo-scientific research, Botez explores the underlying behavioural patterns detected in his surroundings. His work lies in the intersection of technology and mechanics. For the past six years Botez has been working with sound and sculpture through conceptual compositions and orchestral installations. Like light, sound can be shaped and formed. Botez explores the space in front of a sound source by funneling and projecting the moving air as a way of sculpting audio waves. Link: http://www.botezco.com/
Mihail Coșulețu (b. 1982) lives and works in Bucharest. Trained as a painter and spending most of his time painting, Mihail Coșulețu is a keen digital imagery and animation specialist. He explores fundamental geometry patterns, getting to create parallel worlds via the multiplication of a prism or a cube. His large-scale oil paintings sound out the imaginary architecture of possible towns and cities. His work as a graphic designer and illustrator has been noted in some of Humanitas Publishing House’s audio and printed books. He brings to the Mooon Art Project a site-specific construction. Adina Mocanu (b. 1990) lives and works in Bucharest. She is a multifaceted artist amongst whose means of artistic expression one notes installations, performances, photography, video or drawing. Her projects include working with Alexandra Sandu, with whom she has worked together over the past years. Her works, often analytical and rigorous, are tenaciously investigating all boundaries whilst researching “demarcation” as a means to reconstructing the Universe. She brings to the Mooon Art Project, at the Aiurart Space, an in situ artwork.
Sybille Neumeyer (b. 1982) lives and works in Berching, Germany. She is an adroit artist, amongst whose means of artistic expression one notes: design, video, photography, installations and drawing. Out of her numerous projects and residencies we mention here: the Schloss Solitude Scholarship (2011-12), the Contemporary Art Museum in Zagreb (2012-13) or the ARCUS Project, Moriya, Japan (2013). Her art focuses on the phenomena and structures available in nature and/or culture which are then translated into installations, video or works on paper by using repetitions, caching and collecting. Iulia Nistor (b. 1985) lives and works in Nurnberg, Germany. She is an author of paintings, photography, drawings and installations. She is also reading for her PhD at the Regensburg University. Her art sets out to investigate the stimuli and the overlapping memory processes by applying that oh-so needed subjective filter over ambiguous imagery, that are apparently static as they frame a host of unhackneyed instances. Iulia Nistor uses contemporary technology and associates it to the intuition and the sheer fluidity of a profoundly philosophical discourse. The Moon Project is her third ever participation to an exhibition in Bucharest.
Philipp Schweiger (b. 1971) lives and works in Vienna. He is an author of painting, drawing and sculpture. He graduated from the Dusseldorf Arts Academy in 1997. His imagery is poetic and denotative as it manages to intercept truly spectacular instances of an apparent muteness. The stillness of his painting contrasts to the bursting, the ebbing and flowing of the energy that is being generated by the ethos of his imagery.
